Background of Construction
The Widohang Ferry Terminal was built to promote transportation convenience connecting the terminal and the outside and to play the role of gateway of Wido Island.
Development
The Widohang Ferry Terminal was completed in 1996, and it had played the role of gateway of Wido Island for 23 years, but there were many inconveniences in using the terminal due to worn-out facilities. The Gunsan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries, the national fishing port administrative office of Wido Island, decided to build a new ferry terminal by injecting KRW 1 billion in 2019.
Composition
The new Widohang Ferry Terminal to be built will have 2 floors aboveground and 453㎡ total floor area. The terminal is to consist of lounge, ticket booth, toilet, and user convenience facilities.
Current Status
The Widohang Ferry Terminal is located at 2, Wido-ro (1-196, Jin-ri), Wido-myeon, Buan-gun, Jeollabuk-do. Two shipping companies, Shin Han Shipping Co., Ltd. located in Boryeong City, Chungnam and 4UD Shipping Co., Ltd. located in Gyeokpo-ri, Byeonsan-myeon, Buan-gun, are operated through return navigation between Wido Island and Gyeokpo three times a week. Both Shin Han Shipping’s Daewon Car Ferry and 4UD Shipping’s Pajanggeum Car Ferry are 322t passenger ships (car ferries), and the prescribed number of passengers is 350 each. The distance between the terminal to Gyeokpo Port is 16.09km, and it takes 50 min. The navigation timetable from Wido Island to Gyeokpo is as follows: Daewon Car Ferry – 07:45, 11:35 (suspension of navigation every Tuesday), 15:15; Pajanggeum Car Ferry – 09:45, 13:25 (suspension of navigation every Thursday), and 17:05. The fees between Wido Island and Gyeokpo are KRW 8,300 per adult, KRW 7,500 per group of 20 people or over and per middle/high school student, KRW 6,700 per senior citizen aged 65 or over, and per grade 4~6 disabled person, KRW 4,100 per child aged 2~12, and KRW 4,500 per grade 1~3 disabled person. 10% extra charge applies on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
