Summary
A national fishing port means a fishing port whose use range is nationwide or a fishing port required for fishing ground development and fishing boats’ evacuation, since it is located on islands and isolated areas. The person with the right to designate national ports is the Oceans and Fisheries Minister. As of 2020, 113 ports are designated as national fishing ports nationwide. In Jeollabuk-do, seven ports are designated as national fishing ports: Port of Eocheongdo, Port of Yeondo, Port of Maldo, Port of Gaeyado, Port Wido, and Port of Gusipo. Among these, Port Wido is a national fishing port belonging to Buan-gun, like Gyeokpo Port.
Natural Environment
The high and low temperatures around Port Wido are 32℃ and -6℃, respectively, and the average temperature is 21℃. The average wind speed is 14㎧, and the main wind direction is northwest west. Average annual precipitation is 1,235㎜. As for tide, high water ordinary spring tide is 6.038m, and low water ordinary spring tide is 0.592m. The average surface of the sea is 3.315m.  
Background of Construction
Port Wido was built for the following: fishmen’s life and property protection through the role of emergency shelter in case of deteriorating weather conditions; supply of boat supplies of fishing boats to navigate and shape the living basis for residents of islands and isolated areas; fishing village’s income increase and local economic invigoration.
Development
Port Wido was designated as a national port on April 12, 1972. The construction of seawall, lighters’ wharf, and sand arrester was completed in 1989, and that of all basic facilities was completed in 1996. From 2013 until 2014, dredging construction was carried out for Port Wido, with the landing stage of Wido Island completed in 2015. Port Wido was shaped as a fishing and tourism-type multifunctional fishing port from February 2017 to 2020.
Composition
The water area inside Port Wido is 125,000㎡, the fixed-temperature water area is 109,000㎡, the inside port depth of water is 4m, and the North seawall is 285m long. Likewise, the sand arrester is 338m long, the lighters’ wharf is 410m long, and the shore protection is 675m long. The passenger ship wharf is 28m, and the slipway is 30m, with one landing stage set up. Port Wido is equipped with the guard-rail, blind siding, seven danger warning signs and seven lifeguard facilities as safety facilities.  
Current Status
As of 2020, the population of the fishing industry based on Port Wido is 144 people of 89 fishing households and 145 people of 89 fishing and side work households, namely 289 people of 179 households in all. The number of vessel entry/departure into and from the port is a maximum of 56 local fishing boats and 20 external fishing boats daily. The average annual fishery industry output is 526 tons, and the production amount is KRW 3 billion. The main fish species are blue crabs, rockfish, flatfish, shrimps, and anchovies. In Port Wido as a passenger ship port, passenger liners navigating between Wido Island and Gyeokpo are operated six times daily based on one way. Major institutions include one police box, one post office, and one fishermen’s union.  
Port Wido is famous as a site where many tourists visit including fishing enthusiasts as well as a fishing base. The government shaped Port Wido as a fishing and tourism-type multifunctional fishing port using idle spaces within the port from 2017 to 2020 for local economic invigoration and fishing port value increase. By injecting KRW 25.713 billion budget, the government built 259m-long fishing pier, 105m-long connection pier, fishing club house, fishing support facilities, camping center, and camping ground.
