Summary
National Road No. 29 (國道第二十九號線) is a general national road that starts from Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do, passes by Hwasun-gun, Gwangju Metropolitan City and Damyang-gun; Jeollabuk-do [Sunchang-gun, Jeongeup-si, Buan-gun, Gimje-si, Gunsan-si] and Chungcheongnam-do [Seocheon-gun, Buyeo-gun, Cheongyang-gun, Yesan-gun, Hongseong-gun] and ends in Seosan-si, Chungcheongnam-do.
Origin of the Name
Using the names of the starting point Boseong and the end point Seosan, the road was named the “Boseong ~ Seosan Line.” The number of the north and south-bound road was given the odd number 29. 
Data
National Road No. 29 or Boseong ~ Seosan Line measures 290.41 ㎞ in total length. The entire road is fully paved, of which a 2-lane stretch measures 86.82 ㎞; a 4-lane stretch, 196.06 ㎞; a 6-lane stretch, 6.75 ㎞; and an 8-lane stretch, 0.78 ㎞. The section that passes through Jeollabuk-do measures 94.266 ㎞ in total length, of which a 2-lane stretch is 44.29 ㎞ and a 4-lane stretch, 49.97 ㎞. The section that passes through Buan-gun measures 7.63 ㎞ and the entire section of road is 4-lanes.
Background of Construction
The Expressway was constructed with the aim of developing the local economy by expanding transportation networks within Chungcheongnam-do, Jeollabuk-do and Jeollanam-do and by attracting more tourism into the western region.
Development
The existing 2-lane road in disrepair passing by residential zones was rebuilt into 4-lanes measuring 26.8 ㎞ in length with the Baeksan section opening in 2009 as a detour route away from any residential zones.
Current Status
National Road No. 29 is a north-south bound road between Yeongwon-myeon, Jeongeup-si and Baeksan-myeon, Buan-gun. It connects to National Road No. 30 at Baeksan Intersection, linking with Gimje-si to east and Buan-gun to west. Then it splits from National Road No. 30 at Okjeong Intersection in Buryang-myeon, Gimje-si. As of 2019, the traffic volume per day that passes through Daejuk-ri, Baeksan-myeon in Buan-gun is 1,994 vehicles and the stretch that connects with National Road No. 30 tallies 1,304 vehicles.
