Definition
A filming location in Gyekpo-ri, Byeonsan-myeon, Buan-gun, Jeollabuk-do.
Background of Construction
The filming location for the Eastern Jeolla Naval HQ  is a place prepared by the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) to shoot Immortal Admiral YI Sun-sin[2004~2005], which was a historic drama made by spending more than 35 billion won and enjoyed great popularity, in 2004 and 2005. The construction of the location cost more than KRW 10 billion. The team took painstaking efforts to film the scenes realistically and the beautiful scenery.
Development
In March 31, 2004, the Buan-gun Headman, the Jeollabuk-do Governor, and Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) signed the agreement on the provision of support for the construction of the filming location for and production of the TV drama Immortal Admiral YI Sunsin. The KBS team started shooting in Buan on April 20 of the same year. The Buan-Gun Office and the Jeollabuk-do Province provided administrative/financial support including the ground and infrastructure facilities required for building battleships including geobukseon (tortoise-shaped iron-clad ships) and for filming locations. KBS completed the work in August 17, 2005 for building the filming locations for the Eastern Jeolla Naval HQ  the areas where Japanese troops were stationed, and the Navy Headquarters of the Ming troops of China who came to the aid of Korean troops.
Composition
The filming location for the Eastern Jeolla Naval HQ  is composed of a total of 19 buildings including the local government office and living quarters built on a ground measuring 17,213 ㎡. Made by fully utilizing the tiered topography, the entire filming location comes into view at a glance. The sunset is particularly beautiful. At the time of filming the drama, about 700,000 people paid a visit to the place and it rapidly emerged as a favorite destination for many people. Here, you can enjoy a nice view of the mountains and the sea. Olden-day stone fences and houses with roof tiles on the location create a sweet atmosphere. From the watch tower set up down below, an uninterrupted view of the sea can be enjoyed. The nice view of the sunset from the filming location close to the sea was the perfect background for portraying the agony felt by Admiral YI Sun-sin as a human.
Current Status
The filming location is only a five-minute drive from Buan Film Theme Park. Situated between Gyeokpo Port and Gung Port, the place is full of pretty pensions. Visitors can enjoy the beauty of outer Byeonsan including Gyeokpo Port, Chaeseokgang Cliffed Coast, and Gung Port, a small seaside village. The filming location is open from 9:00 am through 6:00 pm. Admission is free. For VR-based hands-on experience of YI Sun-sin, you need to pay KRW 2,000. At present, the facilities are not properly managed and requires continuous management.
