- Summary
- Buan New & Renewable Energy Village is a comprehensive complex of a theme park, an empirical research center, and an industrial complex in one place where research & development, production, education, and promotion all take place. On top of a zone covering 8.26 ㎢ in area dedicated to new renewable energy in Saemangeum, when the wind power demonstration zone covering 1.19 ㎢ in area is built, Buan New & Renewable Energy Village will be a center at the forefront of the new renewable energy industry in Northeast Asia.
- Background of Construction
- Buan New & Renewable Energy Village was founded with the ambition of a successful “Low Carbon, Green Growth Policy” by combining research, industries, and education and making the new renewable energy industry a new growth energy industry of Jeollabuk-do.
- Development
- In 2003, the Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy confirmed the construction plans for Buan New & Renewable Energy Village, and in May, 2009, construction initiated. In 2011, the theme park was opened and operated.
- Composition
- Buan New & Renewable Energy Village consists of the Themed Experiential Hall, the Empirical Research Center, and the Industrial Complex. The Themed Experiential Hall is equipped with facilities including the 4D Video Hall, experiential and promotion halls, and energy-related halls. The hall dedicated to educational and promotional purposes utilizes the latest media technology to guide visitors through the new renewable energy arena. The 4D Video Hall features a 4D film titled “Light of the Future” designed to raise awareness on the value of energy and the impacts from its waste. The Empirical Research Center houses four state-run research institutions that support corporations deploying empirical research and equipment and on-site training, while the Industrial Complex, connected to the Empirical Research Center, advances the new renewable energy industry.
- Current Status
- Buan New & Renewable Energy Village includes the Empirical Research Center and its facilities as follows: the Solar Energy Field Evaluation Center, the Wind Turbine Experiment Building, the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Experiment Building, the Hydrogen Station & Solar Energy Performance Evaluation Center. The research center houses four institutions specializing in empirical research on new renewable energy as follows: the Wind Turbine Technology Research Center under the Material Research Lab affiliated with the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials; Korea Testing Laboratory; Korea Institute of Energy Research; and the New Renewable Energy Material Development Center, Jeonbuk National University.
