Definition
A Tideland Experience located in Docheong-ri, Byeonsan-myeon, Buan-gun, Jeollabuk-do
Summary
Located on the southern coast of Byeonsan-bando, the Mohang Tideland Experience is close to Mohang Beach and the Byeonsan Masil-gil No. 5 course, making the location convenient to visit. As cogongrass grows abundantly in Mohang, the town’s name combines “mo” for the plant, and “hang” for the neck or a port that harbors ships. Mohang geographically resembles the protruding neck of Julpo inland between Byeonsan-bando and Gochang-gun where ships shelter from storms. The sea off Mohang is cherished as a pristine ecological zone on the peninsula, teaming with ultra-fresh seasonal seafood.
Development
The Fishing Town Experiential Program with its experiential center and Tidelands open to the public was created in 2005. In 2017, it was selected as a Fishing Town Experiential & Recreational Village by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
Composition
The Mohang Tideland Experience features an experiential facility, accommodations, an information center and rest areas.
Current Status
The Mohang Tideland Experience is located at the far end of the Byeonsan Masil-gil No. 5 course. Extending 5.4 km in total distance, the 5 courses start from Solseom Island, Yongmul-dong, then passes through Songsan Farm, the Forest Training Center, Mohang Beach, and ends at the Mohang Tideland Experience. It takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes by walking. With Mohang Beach nearby, a trip to the Tideland center offers loads of fun. While on a visit, be sure to do some sightseeing of the forest of horned holy trees in Docheong-ri, selected as the Natural Monument No. 122. The center is part of the Buan-gun Mobile Sightseeing Stamp Tour Course. Visitors can collect points and be eligible for gift-con emojis based on accumulated points. It’s best to call and book in advance since the Tideland open hours vary due to the incoming tides. The center also offers an ocean scented candle-making class, which requires a booking in advance.
