Definition
A Tideland Experience Center located in Docheong-ri, Byeonsan-myeon, Buan-gun, Jeollabuk-do
Summary
The name “Dupo (頭浦)” was formerly “Dongpo (通浦),” which depicts the undulating seawater, and the higher region in Tongpo was called Sangdu-dong. In 1972, when the administration office separated Tongpo and Sangdu-dong into two ‘ri’ units, the town was named “Dupo” borrowing a character from both names. The Dupo Tideland Experience Center is ideal for an experiential program with its Tidelands open to the public twice a day. The sediment is mainly sand, which makes it easy and comfortable for walking without getting stuck in the mud.
Development
The Dupo Tideland Experience Center has been open to public since its official opening in 2012.
Composition
The Dupo Tideland Experience Center consists of Tidelands for clam-catching and a parking facility. Managed by the town of Dupo, the center features a short-neck clam farm [Registered No. 3680] owned by Fishing Community of the provincial government. To protect the shellfish and marine resources, only adult clams are allowed to be caught. One person can keep up to 1 kg of clams per day.
Current Status
The Dupo Tideland Experience Center can be reached by taking the Seohaean Expressway. At the Buan Interchange, turn left toward Byeonsan, Buan-gun and take the National Road No. 30. Nearby attractions feature Sangnok Beach, visited by more than 20,000 people annually. Tourists can experience clam-hunting and enjoy the popular beach while staying at comfortable accommodations and eating out at the many local eateries. The Dupo Tideland Experience Center is part of the Buan-gun Mobile Sightseeing Stamp Tour Course. Visitors can collect points and be eligible for gift-con emojis based on accumulated points. Starting in 2020, Dupo villagers have made efforts to maintain a pristine and safe town by launching a public environment campaign to remove waste from the Tidelands and beach area.
