Summary
Under the slogan “To the Future and the World! Dynamic Buan!” Buan-gun set the direction of the policy “the Center of Culture and Tourism Where Global Citizens Want to Be” and made an effort to activate the region’s culture and tourism. The policy designed to spur culture and tourism was to adapt the history and culture of Buan into tourism and create a virtuous cycle through which tourism turns into economic benefit. Viewed as the collective will of Buan residents to make Buan lively and dynamic, Buan-gun spearheaded the major project to activate the culture and tourism of Buan-gun, Jeollabuk-do by constructing the Jeonbuk Educational Training Center, set to open in March, 2022 and geared to establish the groundwork to make Buan a global city for recreation and tourism; securing private investment to build a tourist condominium on Byeonsan Beach; establishing the Second Project to Promote Main Tourist Attractions in Jeollabuk-do; and building the Buan Goryeo Ware Rest Area along the Seohaean Expressway in collaboration with Korea Highway Corporation.
Based on Buan’s resources in history, culture and tourism, Buan-gun is actively spearheading a project to transform Buan into a global recreational tourist city, where global citizens want to visit, and this effort would be achieved in time for the successful preparation of infrastructure to host the 25th World Scout Jamboree in 2023. The World Scout Jamboree held in Buan for 11 nights and 12 days from August 1 through 12, 2023 is one of the world’s largest festivals designed to nurture physical & emotional health and leadership of over 50,000 young people and Scouts from over 170 countries around the world. Buan-gun plans to utilize Buan Park as part of the training course for the Jamboree event and also plans to establish another Jamboree activity site at Jisocheon Stream. Designated as the Scenic Site No. 116, the area surrounding Jiksopokpo Falls is an important cultural asset in Buan alongside the Beacon Fire Station atop Jeombangsan Mountain, designated as the Jeollabuk-do Monument No. 140. By connecting Gangjin-gun and Haenam-gun, Jeollabuk-do, Buan-gun is currently laying the groundwork to help the site of ancient kilns used for Goryeo ware get listed on the UNESCO World Heritage, and working on the project to develop Buan’s iconic tourist site Byeonsan Beach.
