Development
The Naesosa Fir Forest Trail was formed about 150 years ago and is connected with a road of fir trees (Myeongpumgeori) built between 2012 and 2016. The new section of the fir trail is about two kilometers long, and was widened from two lanes to three lanes at a cost of about 8.9 billion won. Fir trees were planted along both sides of the road, which consists of pedestrian sidewalks and bicycle lanes.
Composition
The Naesosa Fir Forest Trail is a 600-meter-long road connecting Iljumun and Cheonwangmun Gates, the main entrances to Naesosa Temple. The trail is lined with some 500 fir trees that are about 150 years old and 20 meters tall, creating a cool, refreshing tunnel.
Current Status
The Naesosa Fir Forest Trail is famous for its beautiful scenic views, which change according to the season, with cherry blossoms in spring, cool green shade in summer, dazzlingly colorful leaves in autumn, and a silver white background in winter. This woodland trail is one of Korea's most popular destinations among walkers seeking leisure and spiritual well-being. It has recently been selected as one of the 100 most beautiful roads in Korea, and received the Beautiful Coexistence Prize at the 7th National Woodland Trail Contest. The scent of the firs invigorates walkers, helping them to forget the ills of this world. The trail is easy and accessible to people of all ages who appreciate the joys of meditative walking.
