- Background of Construction
- The Gyeokpohang Yacht Marina was built to activate marine leisure and sports activities, attract marine sports tourists, and promote the development of the region.
- Development
- The construction of the Gyeokpohang Yacht Marina began in June 2010 with the investment of KRW 5 billion. Then, the marine mooring facility for yachts and additional facilities were built and the building completion ceremony was held on December 6, 2011. From January 2012, the Yacht Marina began its operations.
- Composition
- The Gyeokpohang Yacht Marina is composed of a mooring facility for up to 37 yachts, and the management building.
- Current Status
- The Gyeokpohang Yacht Marina established the basis of the marine sports center through the construction of its yacht mooring facility. It provides various yacht-related programs including berthing of luxurious yachts, yacht experience classes, and marine sports experience classes, as well as the holding of domestic and international yacht competitions, so as to contribute to the activation of the regional tourism industry and economy.
The first Saemangeum Cup International Yacht Race was held in 2015, while the race, which was held successfully in 2019, was attended by 380 people from 16 countries and visited by some 2,000 people and tourists. So far, a number of yacht sailors from various countries have participated in the race, and as years go by, the size of the race and the number of people are increasing, as is the awareness of the race.
The Gyeokpohang Yacht Marina also holds various domestic competitions, such as the Presidential National Yacht Competition, the Association Leader Cup National Yacht Competition, and the National Maritime Sports Competition. In addition, as it has become a famous off-season training place for domestic yacht teams, members of 18 national yacht teams came and trained at the Marina. When the yacht mooring facility was built, the Yacht Professional Team of Buan County Hall was founded, and young yacht sailors from middle and high schools in Buan-gun, Jeollabuk-do were selected for the national team. The incoming and outgoing hours are from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset, and the operating hours of the Marina are from 9 am to 6 pm in summer, and from 9 am to 5 pm in winter.
